Frequently Asked Questions
What size pork butt should I buy?
Pork butt loses close to half its weight over a long cook, so plan on about a pound raw per person. A 3 to 4 lb feeds four to six and a 6 to 7 lb feeds eight to ten. Four size bands are available.
Can I get a specific weight?
Yes. Put the weight you want in the notes section at checkout, or call the shop, and we'll get as close to it as we can.
Why is it called pork butt when it comes from the shoulder?
Historically the cut was packed into barrels called butts, and the name stuck to the meat rather than the part of the animal. It is the upper shoulder. Sometimes sold as Boston butt for the same reason.
